Timing of sample collection

1. Group & Screen samples from patients who have been transfused within the previous 3 months are valid for 72 hours

2. Group & Screen samples from patients who have not been transfused within the previous 3 months are valid for 7 days

3. Maternity group and Screen samples are valid for 72 hours

If blood is requested during this time, a de-reservation period is included i.e. if the sample was 1-day old when blood requested, the blood would have to be transfused within 2 days
